About Warframe

Warframe is a PvE third-person shooter by Digital Extremes. The game is all about parkour and extremely fast-paced combat. Warframe is free-to-play and has a huge and loyal playerbase. The game is currently using a mix of dedicated servers and peer-to-peer for matchmaking and normal missions, respectively.

Why Ping Matters in Warframe

Despite mainly relying on peer-to-peer for missions, selecting the correct region will make a huge difference. If you have low ping then you most likely won't experience any sort of rubberbanding or delay in abilty usage. So make sure you check the settings menu and make sure your are on the correct region.

Optimal Network Settings

Use the given test on this page to find which server offers the lowest ping, then select that server region from the settings menu. If you have high ping then you will have trouble when using matchmaking, and you will find your chats to be empty most of the time.

Troubleshooting Connection Issues

Troubleshooting connection issues in Warframe: 1) Make sure that your NAT Type is either 'Open' or 'Moderate'. You will face a lot of issues if you have 'Strict' Nat. 2) Make sure you have UPnP and NAT-PMP enabled in the Options menu. 3) If you have connectivity issues then the game will automatically tell you which ports to use. Go to your router settings and forward those ports. 4) Use to the 'Analyze Network' setting in the Options menu to let the game check what is wrong with your connection. 5) Make sure Warframe servers are up and running.

Warframe Network FAQ

What is a good ping for Warframe?

If you are looking to play competitively, you should aim for under 150ms. Pro players typically play at under 75ms. Just make sure that your ping doesn't go above 300ms as it will negatively impact gameplay.

Does tick rate affect my experience?

Warframe operates at Peer-to-peer. Higher tick rates lead to more responsive hit registration. Your actions and how quickly they are registered in-game are determined by your ping and tick rate combined.

Which server region should I choose?

Use our Ping Test tool to figure out your latency with all the regions, and pick the one with the lowest.

How can I reduce my ping?

Pick a wired Ethernet connection if you can, as WiFi tend to bring a lot of connection issues. Fiber connections are better than the traditional ones. Close applications that are hogging all your bandwidth. If you are going to use a WiFi router, just make sure you have QoS enabled on it. Trying Cloudflare or Google DNS can help in a lot of cases.
