About Fortnite

Fortnite is nothing short of a cultural phenomnenon. It completely redefined the BR genre when it was released in 2017. The game is made by Epic Games, which has one of the best gaming infrastructures in the entire world. Fortnite gets millions of players every month, and servers don't even break a sweat. Fortnite was the first game that combined shooting with building, and since then it has risen to be the most competitive Battle Royale to ever exist.

Why Ping Matters in FN

Since shooting is not the only thing that you do in Fortnite, ping is extremely important. The building system heavily relies on your ping. The structures you place, whether it is a wall, a roof, or a ramp, need to be verified and confirmed by the server before the game makes it appear in front of you. At pro level, where every edit you make matters, and a delay of a millisecond could cost you the match, high ping could really ruin your experience. While Pro Fornite players aim for ping under 30ms, as a regular player, you should be good with anything around 60ms.

Optimal Network Settings

Optimal Fortnite experience: Use our Real-time Ping Checker tool to find out the best servers for your connection, then set your Matchmaking Region according to that. By default, it should be Auto. Do not use that. If you don't have powerful hardware then don't hesitate to use Performance Mode to get stable FPS, as low FPS could introduce delay in Fornite. You need to enable 'Net Debug Stats' from the HUD Settings menu to monitor your ping. Make sure you are not downloading anything while playing.

Troubleshooting Connection Issues

Troubleshooting Connectivity issues in Fornite: 1) Find the best Matchmaking Regions for your connection using our tool, and keep trying the ones with the lowest latency. 2) Be sure to disable Hardware Acceleration in the Epic Games Launcher, and disable the overlay. 3) If you are experiencing constant packet loss, then it is highly recommended that you use either Cloudflare DNS(1.1.1.1) or Google DNS(8.8.8.8). 4) Finally, you can visit Epic's Support site and run a connection test from there.

FN Network FAQ

What is a good ping for FN?

If you are looking to play competitively, you should aim for under 40ms. Pro players typically play at under 20ms. Just make sure that your ping doesn't go above 80ms as it will negatively impact gameplay.

Does tick rate affect my experience?

FN operates at 30Hz (varies by mode). Higher tick rates lead to more responsive hit registration. Your actions and how quickly they are registered in-game are determined by your ping and tick rate combined.

Which server region should I choose?

Use our Ping Test tool to figure out your latency with all the regions, and pick the one with the lowest.

How can I reduce my ping?

Pick a wired Ethernet connection if you can, as WiFi tend to bring a lot of connection issues. Fiber connections are better than the traditional ones. Close applications that are hogging all your bandwidth. If you are going to use a WiFi router, just make sure you have QoS enabled on it. Trying Cloudflare or Google DNS can help in a lot of cases.
