About Valorant

A direct competitor to CS2, Valorant is a 5v5 Tactical FPS Shooter from Riot Games, blending abilities with precise gunplay. It uses 128-tick servers, which is the best you can get in any competitive FPS shooter.

Why Ping Matters in Valorant

In Valorant you can easily eliminate your opponent with a single headshot. Everything needs to be instant, be it your shooting or use of abilities. In such scenarios, your ping/latency plays the most important part. On top of that, having 128-tick servers means they update every 7.8ms, making latency even more important. Pro players aim for 20ms, but anything under 50ms should be good enough for normal rank climbing.

Optimal Network Settings

Consider enabling the 'Network Buffering' setting in-game and set it to 'Moderate'. Make sure you have your Network Graph enabled in-game, which will allow you to monitor your ping. Switch to a wired connection if you are getting constant packet loss on WiFi.

Troubleshooting Connection Issues

In case of high ping and packet loss in Valorant: 1) Use our Real-time ping test tool to figure out the servers with the lowsest ping. Then before starting a match make sure that you have one of those servers selected. 2) Make sure that you have Riot Direct enabled. 3) Trying flushing your DNS by typing 'ipconfig /flushdns' inside CMD. 4) Disable VPNs or downloads running in the background.

Valorant Network FAQ

What is a good ping for Valorant?

If you are looking to play competitively, you should aim for under 50ms. Pro players typically play at under 25ms. Just make sure that your ping doesn't go above 100ms as it will negatively impact gameplay.

Does tick rate affect my experience?

Valorant operates at 128-tick. Higher tick rates lead to more responsive hit registration. Your actions and how quickly they are registered in-game are determined by your ping and tick rate combined.

Which server region should I choose?

Use our Ping Test tool to figure out your latency with all the regions, and pick the one with the lowest.

How can I reduce my ping?

Pick a wired Ethernet connection if you can, as WiFi tend to bring a lot of connection issues. Fiber connections are better than the traditional ones. Close applications that are hogging all your bandwidth. If you are going to use a WiFi router, just make sure you have QoS enabled on it. Trying Cloudflare or Google DNS can help in a lot of cases.
