About The Elder Scrolls Online

The Elder Scrolls Online a.k.a ESO is an enormous MMORPG made by ZeniMax Online Studios. The game is set in the massive world of Tamriel where players get to explore different regions, discover secrets, engage in Dungeons, and take part in a PvP battle system called Cyrodiil Alliance War. ESO doesn't have multiple cluster of servers. Instead, it has just two Megaservers located in EU and NA.

Why Ping Matters in ESO

If you have played the endgame content of Elder Scrolls Online, then you should know how competitive some of the activities can get. Players who have taken part in Veteran Trials and other PvP content know how important it is to get your animation cancellings and 'light attack weavings' right. If you have high ping then there is no way you are pulling those mechanics in time, which will automatically result in low damage output. Therefore, it is recommended to stay below 100ms ping.

Optimal Network Settings

When you login in Elder Scrolls Online the game gives you the option to pick your Megaserver. Use our tool to find out which Megaserver is serving the lowest ping for you, then go in-game and pick that. Don't forget to enable to latency counter from the Interface Settings menu to monitor your ping.

Troubleshooting Connection Issues

Fixing High Ping issues in ESO: 1) Start by checking Bethesda's official server status page and see if the servers are undergoing any sort of maintenance or not. If they are, then you have your answer. 2) Use the ping test tool given above to check what ping you are getting on the Megaservers. If it is high for both then the issue is with your connection. 3) Try restarting your router once. It might fix the issue. 4) Make sure your Windows Firewall is not blocking the game.

ESO Network FAQ

What is a good ping for ESO?

If you are looking to play competitively, you should aim for under 100ms. Pro players typically play at under 50ms. Just make sure that your ping doesn't go above 200ms as it will negatively impact gameplay.

Does tick rate affect my experience?

ESO operates at Megaserver Architecture. Higher tick rates lead to more responsive hit registration. Your actions and how quickly they are registered in-game are determined by your ping and tick rate combined.

Which server region should I choose?

Use our Ping Test tool to figure out your latency with all the regions, and pick the one with the lowest.

How can I reduce my ping?

Pick a wired Ethernet connection if you can, as WiFi tend to bring a lot of connection issues. Fiber connections are better than the traditional ones. Close applications that are hogging all your bandwidth. If you are going to use a WiFi router, just make sure you have QoS enabled on it. Trying Cloudflare or Google DNS can help in a lot of cases.
