About Apex Legends

Released in 2019, with its fast TTK and insane movement tech, Apex Legends truly revolutionized the Battle Royale genre. Before Apex, abilities and squad-based tactics were not a thing in BR games. Most titles were heavily focused on weapons and slow gameplay. Apex Legends changed it all. Since Apex is such a fast game, it requires you to have a good connection. The servers are of 20Hz tick rate, which is quite low when compared to the other BRs in the market, but that hasn't stopped the game's netcode from improving over time.

Why Ping Matters in Apex

If you want to hit your moving targets without emptying your entire mag, come out victorious from your CQC, utilize movement techs like tap-strafing and wall bounce, prevent taking damage even after taking cover, then you have to have a low ping. The 20-tick servers in Apex update every 50ms, making the game more prone to network latency than the competition. Masters and Predators typically aim for anything between 30-50ms. Diamond and anything below should be good with 50-70ms of ping.

Optimal Network Settings

In order to optimize your network performance in Apex Legends: Use our Ping Checker tool to figure out which server gives you the lowest latency, then pick that server from the data center menu. Make sure that the server you are going to pick doesn't have any packet loss displayed beside it. Type '+cl_showfps 4' in the launch option of Steam or EA App to monitor your network stats.

Troubleshooting Connection Issues

Troubleshoot Connectivity issues in Apex Legends. 1) Use the Real-Time Test located on the top of this page to check your ping. Then from the Main Menu of Apex Legends, open the Data Center menu and pick the one with the lowest latency. 2) If you continue facing issues like lag or rubberbanding on your current server, then go back to the Data Center menu and pick the next best one. 3) From your Gameplay Settings, enable Performance Display, which will allow you to monitor your latency and check for packet loss. 4) If the problems persists, try EA's Connection Quality Report tool to figure out and diagnose the issue. 5) Don't forget to just simply restart your router once.

Apex Network FAQ

What is a good ping for Apex?

If you are looking to play competitively, you should aim for under 50ms. Pro players typically play at under 25ms. Just make sure that your ping doesn't go above 100ms as it will negatively impact gameplay.

Does tick rate affect my experience?

Apex operates at 20Hz. Higher tick rates lead to more responsive hit registration. Your actions and how quickly they are registered in-game are determined by your ping and tick rate combined.

Which server region should I choose?

Use our Ping Test tool to figure out your latency with all the regions, and pick the one with the lowest.

How can I reduce my ping?

Pick a wired Ethernet connection if you can, as WiFi tend to bring a lot of connection issues. Fiber connections are better than the traditional ones. Close applications that are hogging all your bandwidth. If you are going to use a WiFi router, just make sure you have QoS enabled on it. Trying Cloudflare or Google DNS can help in a lot of cases.
