About Pokémon Champions

Pokemon Champions is an official Pokemon competitive game made by Nintendo and The Pokemon Works. The game is an online battle-focused title made for people who love Pokemon and also want some PvP action alongside it. The game is crossplatform between Nintendo Switch and Mobile platforms and share online Ranked Ladders between both the platforms. Pokemon Champions follows the Play! Pokemon rulesets for its tournaments, and features ranked play accessible globally.

Why Ping Matters in Pokémon Champions

Pokemon Champions, unlike Pokemon Go, is not a casual game. The game can be extremely competitive at times and the last thing you would want is getting kicked out of a match due to lag and high ping. The matches have turn timers in them, if your turn timer expires just because of delay in move selection then you are pretty much done for. So you need to aim ping under 80ms for competitive sessions.

Optimal Network Settings

If you are playing the game on Nintendo Switch then make sure that you are using a wired connection. Wireless connections are highly unreliable. And if you are going to play on Wi-Fi, make sure you are using a 5Ghz one.

Troubleshooting Connection Issues

Fixing lag and high ping issues in Pokemon Champions: 1) Use the diagnostic tool above to figure out your closest server region, and make sure you are connected to that region in-game. 2) Check if the Nintendo Servers are online or not. If they aren't then you have your answer. 3) Make sure you don't have Strict NAT on your connection as it will result in constant disconnections. 4) Give your router and your device a quick restart.

Pokémon Champions Network FAQ

What is a good ping for Pokémon Champions?

If you are looking to play competitively, you should aim for under 60ms. Pro players typically play at under 30ms. Just make sure that your ping doesn't go above 120ms as it will negatively impact gameplay.

Does tick rate affect my experience?

Pokémon Champions operates at Server-Authoritative. Higher tick rates lead to more responsive hit registration. Your actions and how quickly they are registered in-game are determined by your ping and tick rate combined.

Which server region should I choose?

Use our Ping Test tool to figure out your latency with all the regions, and pick the one with the lowest.

How can I reduce my ping?

Pick a wired Ethernet connection if you can, as WiFi tend to bring a lot of connection issues. Fiber connections are better than the traditional ones. Close applications that are hogging all your bandwidth. If you are going to use a WiFi router, just make sure you have QoS enabled on it. Trying Cloudflare or Google DNS can help in a lot of cases.
