How it works

We test round-trips (HTTPS) from your browser to AWS/Cloudflare or Game server endpoints if they're public or published by the developers. The first request is warmup, and then consecutive requests (upto 5) are used to make out an average. Browser tests usually add some latency, so in-game is usually lower.

Avg:
Avg trip time. This is what creates the ranking and how well your connection is doing.
Jitter:
How much the ping jumps across tests. Under 10 ms is smooth and acceptable.
Failed:
Requests to some servers might fail. We ignore these tests in results.
Grade:
Combined average of all tests across all mentioned servers.

About The Finals

Made by Embark Studios, the people who made Arc Raiders, The Finals is a free to play 3v3 and 5v5 PvP FPS title with destructible environments. Every thing in the game is destructible. Walls, floors, ceilings, entire buildings. You can destroy pretty much everything during fights with your weapons, grenades and abilities. Embark has dedicated servers across the globe to maintain smooth matchmaking.

Why Ping Matters in The Finals

The Finals is unlike any other arena shooter in gaming. It is extremely fast-paced and everything you do affects the environment of the match. In this game you need to have insane reaction times as you are constantly diving in and out of fights. With high ping you will be eliminated before you even realise, as your inputs will be delayed. Delayed shooting and movement are something that you should avoid at all cost in a game like The Finals. The game uses 60Hz servers, so as long as your ping is somewhere around 60ms, you should be fine.

Optimal Network Settings

Though The Finals automatically assigns the closest server to you, there is a server selector in-game that lets you manually pick the server of your choice. The best move would be to use our ping test tool and check your ping on all the servers and then go with the one that has the lowest ping. Before starting the test make sure you are using a wired connection and there are no downloads running in the background,

Troubleshooting Connection Issues

Fixing connection issues in The Finals: 1) Visit the official Server Status page of Embark Studios to check if the online services are up or down. 2) Disable your VPN if you are using one. 3) Use the tool above to get an idea about the servers with the lowest pings, and then start a match to see if you are being routed to those servers or not. 4) Give your router a quick restart. 5) Make sure your Firewall is not blocking the game.

The Finals Network FAQ

What is a good ping for The Finals?

If you are looking to play competitively, you should aim for under 60ms. Pro players typically play at under 30ms. Just make sure that your ping doesn't go above 120ms as it will negatively impact gameplay.

Does tick rate affect my experience?

The Finals operates at 60Hz. Higher tick rates lead to more responsive hit registration. Your actions and how quickly they are registered in-game are determined by your ping and tick rate combined.

Which server region should I choose?

Use our Ping Test tool to figure out your latency with all the regions, and pick the one with the lowest.

How can I reduce my ping?

Pick a wired Ethernet connection if you can, as WiFi tend to bring a lot of connection issues. Fiber connections are better than the traditional ones. Close applications that are hogging all your bandwidth. If you are going to use a WiFi router, just make sure you have QoS enabled on it. Trying Cloudflare or Google DNS can help in a lot of cases.
