About eFootball

The game eFootball (developed by Konami) is the free-to-play version of the iconic once 'Fifa competitor' Pro Evolution Soccer (PES) series. The game has both 1v1 and co-op modes, and Konami has dedicated servers hosted across Google Cloud Platform to support these modes. For a f2p game, the game has surprisingly good mechanics. eFootball focus heavily on realistic ball physics and the gameplay can prove to be quite tactical sometimes. Players have to make sure that they are pressing their buttons fast enough in order to pass and shoot the ball precisely.

Why Ping Matters in eFootball

Just because it isn't a FPS game that doesn't mean ping doesn't play an important role. In fact, Football Games are all about make decisions dynamically in split-seconds. You take too long to pass or shoot the ball, you are done. If you have high ping then there is no way you will be able to pass your ball in time with the added latency. Also, you probably won't be able to defend the goals against you. To make sure that you are passing and shooting the ball precisely in time and for optimal defender switching, you need to have your ping below 70ms.

Optimal Network Settings

Before you try your luck in Ranked Matches, make sure that you are using a wired connection and not playing the game on Wifi. eFootball offers a matchmaking connection setting in-game, be sure to set it to 'Matchmaking Area: Nearby Only'. You can also try limiting the search criteria to 5 bars.

Troubleshooting Connection Issues

Troubleshooting high ping issues in eFootball: 1) Use the ping test tool given above to find out your latency to all the eFootball servers. If your overall ping is high on all the servers then there is something wrong with your connection. 2) You can try checking eFootball's server status by visiting Konami's official server status page. If the servers are down then you have your answer. 3) Switch off your router, wait for 5 minutes, and turn it back on. This will clear any sort of network bufferbloat. 4) Make sure you don't have ongoing downloads or updates in the background.

eFootball Network FAQ

What is a good ping for eFootball?

If you are looking to play competitively, you should aim for under 60ms. Pro players typically play at under 30ms. Just make sure that your ping doesn't go above 120ms as it will negatively impact gameplay.

Does tick rate affect my experience?

eFootball operates at Client-Server Dedicated. Higher tick rates lead to more responsive hit registration. Your actions and how quickly they are registered in-game are determined by your ping and tick rate combined.

Which server region should I choose?

Use our Ping Test tool to figure out your latency with all the regions, and pick the one with the lowest.

How can I reduce my ping?

Pick a wired Ethernet connection if you can, as WiFi tend to bring a lot of connection issues. Fiber connections are better than the traditional ones. Close applications that are hogging all your bandwidth. If you are going to use a WiFi router, just make sure you have QoS enabled on it. Trying Cloudflare or Google DNS can help in a lot of cases.
