About Rocket League

One of the most unique gaming concepts in the world, Rocket League is actually a sports game developed by Psyonix where you play Football using rocket-powered cars. Though the concept might sound simple and easy to pick up, Rocket League has to have one of the highest skill ceilings in the world of sports games. There is physics involved and if you don't use calculated moves then good luck winning a game. You can do some insane mechanical combos and perform true cinematic aerial moves in the game. Rocket League uses Epic Online Services and is currently free-to-play, with servers all spanning all across the globe.

Why Ping Matters in Rocket League

We must not forget that Rocket League is actually a competitive sports game, and we know how intense PvP in sports games can get. Judging from how fast-paced the game is, if you don't have low ping, then you will have a really hard time playing the game. Every shot you take will be off because your moves will be delayed. Not to mention you will have a hard time defending goals also. Rocket League pros tend to aim below 20ms ping. But for regular Ranked mode, 40ms should be more than enough. Anything above 100ms makes the game unplayable.

Optimal Network Settings

Since Rocket League doesn't really give you any server selector and connects you to the closest server instead, the best thing to do is use our ping test tool and see how much ping you are getting on that server. Before that, make sure that you have switched to a wired connection, as wi-fi tend to bring disruptions.

Troubleshooting Connection Issues

Troubleshooting Rocket League connections: 1) Go to your Gameplay Settings and check which server the game is connecting you to, then use our tool to check your ping on that server. If you are getting high ping then there is something wrong with your internet connection. 2) Check to see if Epic Online Services are online or not. If they aren't then you have your answer. 3) Make sure you don't have any VPN active in the background. 4) Give your wi-fi router a quick restart. 5) Try flushing your DNS by opening CMD and typing ipconfig/ flushdns. 6) Try forwarding ports UDP 7000-9000.

Rocket League Network FAQ

What is a good ping for Rocket League?

If you are looking to play competitively, you should aim for under 40ms. Pro players typically play at under 20ms. Just make sure that your ping doesn't go above 80ms as it will negatively impact gameplay.

Does tick rate affect my experience?

Rocket League operates at 60Hz. Higher tick rates lead to more responsive hit registration. Your actions and how quickly they are registered in-game are determined by your ping and tick rate combined.

Which server region should I choose?

Use our Ping Test tool to figure out your latency with all the regions, and pick the one with the lowest.

How can I reduce my ping?

Pick a wired Ethernet connection if you can, as WiFi tend to bring a lot of connection issues. Fiber connections are better than the traditional ones. Close applications that are hogging all your bandwidth. If you are going to use a WiFi router, just make sure you have QoS enabled on it. Trying Cloudflare or Google DNS can help in a lot of cases.
