About Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord

Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord is a ARPG incorporating medieval strategies, made by TaleWorlds Entertainment. The game hosts massive multiplayer battles and pits players against each other in either 6v6 Skirmish and Captain Modes or an all out warfare mode consisting of 100 players. Bannerlord is all about melee combat and the game has its own dedicated server.

Why Ping Matters in Bannerlord

Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord is not a straightforward melee combat game. The melee attacks and blocks you perform in the game follow a quad directional combat system that goes high, low, right, and left. If you have high ping then it becomes impossible for you to attack, block, and parry incoming attacks in time. Anything below 100ms should be good enough for you.

Optimal Network Settings

When picking a server from the in-game Custom Server List, make sure to sort the servers by ping first. Then join the server that is showing the lowest ping for your connection. Try to stick to a wired conection always. Finally, try to avoid joining servers that have an overabundance of players. More players mean more pressure on the server which ultimately results in lag.

Troubleshooting Connection Issues

Troubleshooting connection issues in Bannerlord: 1) Start by joining a server with the lowest ping. If you end up lagging then use the ping diagnostic tool given above to check your ping on all the regions. If your ping is appearing to be Red for all the servers then there is something wrong with your connection. 2) Turn off your router, and wait for 5 minutes. This will clear any abnormalities with your connection. 3) Try using either the Cloudfare DNS which is 1.1.1.1 or the Google DNS which is 8.8.8.8 4) Finally, check if windows is downloading updates in the background or not.

Bannerlord Network FAQ

What is a good ping for Bannerlord?

If you are looking to play competitively, you should aim for under 60ms. Pro players typically play at under 30ms. Just make sure that your ping doesn't go above 120ms as it will negatively impact gameplay.

Does tick rate affect my experience?

Bannerlord operates at 60Hz. Higher tick rates lead to more responsive hit registration. Your actions and how quickly they are registered in-game are determined by your ping and tick rate combined.

Which server region should I choose?

Use our Ping Test tool to figure out your latency with all the regions, and pick the one with the lowest.

How can I reduce my ping?

Pick a wired Ethernet connection if you can, as WiFi tend to bring a lot of connection issues. Fiber connections are better than the traditional ones. Close applications that are hogging all your bandwidth. If you are going to use a WiFi router, just make sure you have QoS enabled on it. Trying Cloudflare or Google DNS can help in a lot of cases.
