About Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4

The latest installment in the Call of Duty franchise, COD MW4 is the new COD game of 2026. Made by Infinity Ward and published by Activision, COD MW4 ditches omni movement from Black Ops 7, and brings back the classic COD movement experience. With brand new gameplay and movement mechanics, MW4's Ballistic Authority gameplay feels like a breath of fresh air. Especially, when compared to BO6 and BO7. The gameplay feels more realistic, and the weapons feel a lot different than the previous call of duty games released in the past few years. Infinity Ward has really gone back to the drawing board and managed to sketch a game that finally feels like a military FPS. COD is all about its multiplayer, which is backed by Activision's Demonware infrastructure.

Why Ping Matters in MW4

When has ping not mattered in a Call of Duty game? In fact, the only thing that has consistently mattered through all these years is ping/latency. MW4 is a FPS game, on top of that it has an extremely low TTK and precise ballistic calculations. If you are lagging all around the map due to high ping, you wouldn't even realise where you are getting shot from. COD games have always known to have peeker's advantage, and with high ping there is no way you will be able to use that advantage for yourself. Not to mention, the insane amount of hit markers and hit registration issues, that will follow along. If you are playing Multiplayer then your ping HAS to be below 80ms.

Optimal Network Settings

The first thing you should do is go the Telemetry section in the Interface settings menu and enable Server Latency and Packet Loss. This will allow you to monitor the quality of your connection. Once you have done that, head over to your Graphics Settings menu and disable 'On-Demand Texture Streaming'. This will eradicate the ping spikes due to dynamic downloading of textures. Just to be sure that no other factor is influencing the results, try to switch to a wired connection if you are on your wi-fi.

Troubleshooting Connection Issues

Troubleshooting connectivity issues in COD MW4 2026: 1) Start by checking if the Activision Servers are up or not. They could be undegoing maintenance, and the issues might not be exclusive to you. 2) If Activision Services are up then you can quickly use our ping test tool to see how much ping you are getting on the servers closest to your location. 3) If the server that is supposed to be the closest from your location is serving high ping then use any server router app to switch to the next best region of servers. 4) If you have Strict NAT, which you can easily check in-game, then you can forward ports TCP 3074 and UDP 3074, 3478-3480 (plenty of guides on the internet to tell you how to do it). 5) Give your router a quick restart, as the issue could be very trivial, and a simple router restart is all you need. 6) Using a wired connection is always recommended.

MW4 Network FAQ

What is a good ping for MW4?

If you are looking to play competitively, you should aim for under 50ms. Pro players typically play at under 25ms. Just make sure that your ping doesn't go above 100ms as it will negatively impact gameplay.

Does tick rate affect my experience?

MW4 operates at 60Hz (Dedicated Server). Higher tick rates lead to more responsive hit registration. Your actions and how quickly they are registered in-game are determined by your ping and tick rate combined.

Which server region should I choose?

Use our Ping Test tool to figure out your latency with all the regions, and pick the one with the lowest.

How can I reduce my ping?

Pick a wired Ethernet connection if you can, as WiFi tend to bring a lot of connection issues. Fiber connections are better than the traditional ones. Close applications that are hogging all your bandwidth. If you are going to use a WiFi router, just make sure you have QoS enabled on it. Trying Cloudflare or Google DNS can help in a lot of cases.
