About Helldivers 2

Released in 2024, Helldivers 2 is coop TPS by Arrowhead Game Studios where you and your team have to land on planets, fight hoardes of aliens, complete assigned objectives, collect resources, and extract successfully. There are multiple difficulties for players to choose from, where the more the difficulty the better the loot. Helldivers 2 has matchmaking and it uses dedicated servers for that.

Why Ping Matters in Helldivers 2

While Helldivers 2 is a PvE game, things can get extremely intense and difficult at higher difficulties. If you have delay or desync due to high ping then you will get overwhelmed quite easily. High latency or lag could affect your Stratagems usage. If you are not being able to call your Stratagems, reload your weapons, and throw your grenades in time, then you will most likely lose the game.

Optimal Network Settings

Since the matchmaking in HD2 is automatic, and there is no way for you to select a specific server, your best bet is to use the real-time diagnostic tool given above to find out your ping on different regions. While doing so, make sure you don't have bandwidth-hogging apps running in the background. Also, ensure that you don't have 'Strict NAT'.

Troubleshooting Connection Issues

If you are experiencing high ping in Helldivers 2: 1) Give your WiFi router a quick restart. 2) Flush your DNS by typing 'ipconfig /flushdns' inside command prompt. 3) You need to make sure that your NAT type is either 'Open' or 'Moderate'. 4) Check if the Helldivers 2 servers are up or not.

Helldivers 2 Network FAQ

What is a good ping for Helldivers 2?

If you are looking to play competitively, you should aim for under 80ms. Pro players typically play at under 40ms. Just make sure that your ping doesn't go above 160ms as it will negatively impact gameplay.

Does tick rate affect my experience?

Helldivers 2 operates at Server-based. Higher tick rates lead to more responsive hit registration. Your actions and how quickly they are registered in-game are determined by your ping and tick rate combined.

Which server region should I choose?

Use our Ping Test tool to figure out your latency with all the regions, and pick the one with the lowest.

How can I reduce my ping?

Pick a wired Ethernet connection if you can, as WiFi tend to bring a lot of connection issues. Fiber connections are better than the traditional ones. Close applications that are hogging all your bandwidth. If you are going to use a WiFi router, just make sure you have QoS enabled on it. Trying Cloudflare or Google DNS can help in a lot of cases.
